Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra were first introduced by Karan Johar in the high school romance comedy Student of the Year (SOTY). The film’s great box office success was turned into a franchise seven years later with SOTY 2. The second episode, which Puneet Malhotra directed, served as the impetus for the start of Ananya Pandey and Tara Sutaria’s careers in show business.
There will be a new high school movie four years from now, but there will be some substantial changes. Karan Johar is converting the Student of the Year film series into a web series in partnership with Disney+Hotstar.
Karan Johar will introduce Shanaya Kapoor, the daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, with this series in keeping with Dharma’s practise of introducing new talent with the franchise. Shanaya will make her acting debut in Mohanlal’s recently revealed Pan-Indian epic action comedy Vrushabha, but SOTY 3 will be her first foray into the OTT space.
The movie, which is now in the screenplay stage, is expected to start shooting in the last three months of this year. Insiders have revealed that production on this show is now taking place at Dharma’s digital entertainment branch, Dharmatic Entertainment, despite the fact that the narrative and other details are still being kept under wraps.
The director of the show should be chosen within a month. Shanaya had been anticipating her Bollywood debut for the past two years. The urban triangle love drama Bedhadak, directed by Karan Johar, originally called for the 23-year-old diva to make her acting debut alongside Lakshya Lalwani and Gurfateh Pirzada.
However, writing issues forced the Shashank Khaitan-directed movie to be shelved. With Mohanlal’s Vrushabha, her long-held dream to act will now be fulfilled, and SOTY 3 is expected to give her a big international stage where she can further shine and show off her acting talent.
