90s popular actor Raveena Tandon was recently seen at the National Conclave on Mann Ki Baat@100. The actress said the TV industry and OTT platforms are leading in paying women better compared to their male counterparts. She mentioned, be it directors, producers, choreographers, and several top platforms are now running by women.
She added, “We always talk about pay disparity, but in the TV industry women get paid much higher compared to men.”
The actress praised the TV industry and OTT platforms for providing equal opportunities to women in Industry. Further, the actress revealed that the Film industry was surely male-dominated, but the scenario has changed now and women have broken the glass ceiling.
While talking about opportunities in the industry, the actress said that they are getting it and she understands that it is because of their characteristics and understanding of the role. Women understand the issues, and the sensitivity, and they have the sensibility to get more opportunities; the actor said.
The actor is known for her roles in popular movies like Mohra, Daman, Akhiyon Se Goli Mare, Laadla, etc. The actress said, in the 90s, it was difficult to break a perceived image and play certain characters that are bound to stereotypes. She mentioned how she struggled for playing certain characters.
The actor added, her films are a reflection of social causes that she is concerned about. In 2001, the actress worked in a picture named Daman, which was a story of women subjected to marital rape.
She further said, she struggled a lot while bringing out stories that concern issues like domestic violence and marital rape.
The actor told how she faced ignorance at that time for playing such characters. However, the film won the National Film Award because she believes the story was way ahead of its time. And still, such issues are a social concern that needs to be addressed.
The actor congratulated Prime Minister for the 100th episode of Mann Ki Baat. She praised the initiative of Mann Ki Baat by calling it a genius idea that puts the spotlight on the unsung heroes of the country. The episode is scheduled to be broadcast on April 30 with its celebration of completing 100 episodes.
