According to an article published in The Times Of India, the role of red blood cells is immense for keeping our overall health stable and fit. These are the cells that are responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to other parts of the body and returning with carbon dioxide which the lungs exhale. Anemia or iron deficiency is one of the major issues found in the body. It happens to occur when there is a deficit in the red blood cells of the body. Mayo Clinic says that iron plays a major role in helping the body to produce enough substance inside the red blood cells that helps to carry oxygen called hemoglobin.
Anemia caused due to deficiency of iron in the body has noticeable symptoms as well.
Fatigue And Loss Of Energy
Anemia occurs due to lower levels of red blood cells in the body. It is a condition where the body is unable to transport oxygen to the different tissues efficiently. One of the easily noticeable symptoms of the deficiency of iron is weakness and extreme tiredness. It may even make it very difficult for a person to carry out regular activities. One may even find it difficult to perform mild or moderate exercise or even to sleep as well.
Rapid Beating Of The Heart
As you have known by now that hemoglobin is produced due to iron. This is the protein inside the red blood cells that supports carrying oxygen all across the body. Insufficient or a deficit in hemoglobin levels may lead to forcing the heart for pumping harder in order to supply oxygen. This leads to irregularities inside the heartbeat, pounding of the heart, and faster beating also called palpitation.
Shortness Of Breath
According to medical experts, people who are suffering from moderate or mild iron deficiency anemia generally do not show noticeable symptoms. But when they do show will find that they are experiencing shortness of breath. It is one of the very common symptoms of anemia. This happens when there are insufficient levels of iron in the body. It brings a limitation on the creation of hemoglobin in RBC. Thus it becomes difficult for the body to carry oxygen from the lungs to the different parts of the body.
Other Symptoms
Mayo Clinic says that due to anemia, a person may experience chest pain, headache, pale skin, cold feet, and hands, dizziness, soreness in the tongue loss of appetite, and brittle nails as well.
Persons Who Are At A Risk
A deficiency of minerals is most commonly found in women, especially those who are menstruating. It happens due to the loss of blood they undergo. Meat happens to be one of the vital sources of iron and so anemia is also common among vegetarians as well. Mayo Clinic further states that an iron deficiency is found amongst infants too. Babies who are born prematurely, have low body weight or do not get enough supply of iron from breast milk has the risk of suffering from iron deficiency.
