Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma is still uncertain to play in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia since he has just had his second baby, which is a boy. Although he is looked at as an important factor to the first match, it is still pretty much uncertain that he will take part in it or not.

Reiterating his support for Rohit’s family, ex-cricketer Surinder Khanna sends his warm regards to Sharma and praises him in having two children. Meanwhile, he called out for Rohit to leave the family matters behind and join the Border Gavaskar Trophy as it is ‘extremely important’. To boost Rohit’s motivation, Khanna illustrated a story from his own life when he had been a groom himself but was still practicing cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah as Captain and Unavailable Players

Rohit had already specified earlier to the BCCI that he does not expect to play in the first Test. If that is the case, India’s vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah will be in charge of the team in his absence. This decision is taken in the middle of the doubts surrounding the performance of India team of late. Their three-nil rout at the hands of New Zealand, the first such absence of success since the year Two Thousand in the home Test series, has raised warnings over their preparations for the Australian tour.

Border-Gavaskar Trophy: The Test Series To Watch As It Decides The WTC Finals

  • The Border – Gavaskar trophy which is a test between India and Australia, is going to be captured in history as the first opponents’ face-off in a 5 Match Test Series. This series will be important for India, as it is the team’s hope to reach the finals and make it three in WTC in a row. Their current points percentage is 58.33 percent, less than that of Australia’s who are on top of the table.

In order for India to make it to the finals of the WTC tournament, at least 4 out of the 5 tests against Australia need to be won, with the list of series given as follows:

  • 1st Test: Perth – 22 November
  • 2nd Test: Adelaide – 6 December
  • 3rd Test: Brisbane – 14 December
  • 4th Test: Melbourne – 26 December
  • 5th Test: Sydney – 3 January 2025

Due to the recent birth of his second kid, there are doubts regarding Rohit Sharma’s availability for the first Test, which makes it hard for India in Australia. That would be a massive setback for the team, more so after India was thrashed 3-0 in the recent series against New Zealand. There were questions raised on the team’s ability to face a solid Australian team after that series. This series is crucial for India and substitutes, if any, for Rohit to keep the chances of making it to the World Test Championship final alive.
